The fishing village of Pengambengan shows you the live of the fishermen. Every afternoon they sail out and they don’t do that on small boats, but on ships that employ 25 people, they always sail in pairs because the ships are “married”, the ships and the crew all have a task. Pengambengan is one the biggest fishing harbours and a important fishing port in Bali. The fishermen fish at night and do this mainly in the period from August to May.
These Madurese/Bugis-style prahu fishing vessels are a holdover from the Madura and South Sulawesi traders who settled along Bali’s west coast for generations.
This is the harbour where the biggest fish auction in Jembrana takes place. This pier is also a favorite spot for anglers. In addition to the shipyard, there are also factories around the dock with fish processing plants, fish processing and canning of fish oil and sardines.

The harbour of Pengambengan is located on a kind of delta and there are warungs and restaurants everywhere on the side of the water, so it has become a popular area with the local people who come to watch when the boats sail out and to have some ikan bakar.

Warung Ikan Bakar Pesisir is one of the many ikan bakar warungs where you can have a nice dinner, ikan bakar and shrimps and it was all excellent and for a local price. The warung is located on the harbour and gives a nice view of the harbour where the coloured fishing boats are moored that usually sail out in the afternoon, early evening to go fishing.
