Taman Ayun Temple

The temple is located in the village of Mengwi. It is a large complex with several temples and is surrounded by a beautiful garden with ponds and canals.

The temple is dedicated to the ancestors of the monarchs who ruled Mengwi until 1892. Pura Taman Ayun was built in 1634 and is located in a water garden with a moat with lotus flowers on three sides. Accessible through the main gate (Kori agung) with a statue of Sai. There are several meru towers representing the mountains, the place of the gods. The highest meru has eleven floors and represents Mount Gunung Batukaru.

It is a big complex with several temples and ponds. The complex comprises four different divisions, one ranking higher than the other. The first is referred to as the ‘Jaba’ or outer division, accessible only through a single entrance and walkway over the ponds.

A temple which is worth a visit, the entrance fee is IDR 30.000.
