Sekumpul Waterfall

It is about one hour drive from Lovina but it is definitely worth it. The car can be parked on the central parking lot and from there it is a hike of 20 minutes through the area. A few times the road goes up and down considerably, you will pass several warungs where you, if desired, can stop for a refreshing drink. Along the way you walk through a forest, look out over mountains and the beautiful nature, it is a sturdy but beautiful walk.

A visit to Sekumpul is not a standard visit to a waterfall, just like with Aling Aling you need to bring a guide with you, the local guide knows the area very well and can give you a lot of information about the area.

There are three types of tickets (prices are person):
1) IDR 20.000 only view of the waterfall and you can’t go down without a local guide.
2) IDR 150.000 this is a medium trekking including entrance fee, donation for the area, swimming at the waterfall, Sekumpul Waterfall and Hidden waterfall, local guide and insurance.
3) IDR 250.000 this is a long trekking including entrance fee, donation for the area, swimming at the waterfall, Sekumpul, Hidden and Fiji waterfall, local guide, fresh coconut and insurance.

There are several guides in the area, the one we contact if we have guests who want to do the trekking is Made, he is an experienced guide and knows the area very well as he has lived in the area all his life.
Made can be reached by WA, +62 878-6306-0101.

The trekking is a long walk with a lot of climbing and good walking shoes are recommended also swimming gear is definitely recommended because you can swim in the cool water. The long walk is worth it because it is a beautiful area.

It is a beautiful place but be aware of the huge number of stairs.

Sekumpul Accommodation, Restaurant, homestay and villa
If you feel one day isn’t enough to fully explore this magnificent area, consider an overnight stay at Sekumpul Accommodation or the newer Sekumpul Villas. Made and his family run this and when you stay here you can also discuss a trekking with Made. Just under 200 meters from the waterfall, this homestay offers a convenient and comfortable place to rest.
The rooms are spread across three small buildings. There’s a single house with a double bed, sofa, and a veranda offering lovely mountain views. Another building houses two separate rooms (one with two single beds, one with a double), plus a fourth room on the lower level.

More information about this homestay can be found on Sekumpul Accommodation.

Local community and safety information
The residents of Sekumpul are part of a local organization dedicated to keeping the area clean and well-maintained. Your visit therefore contributes to these valuable local activities.
For your own safety and to support the local community, it is standard practice that you can only visit the waterfall with a local guide, unless you only want to see the view.
If you arrive by motorbike, you can choose to park in the central parking lot and walk the rest of the way, but you can also take a different route that leads you to the other side.
If you come from Lovina and take the road via Sudaji, you will end up on the other side of the area and can drive down yourself, however, keep in mind that it goes down steeply, so caution is advised.

Next, you arrive at the Sekumpul Homestay and restaurant where you can park (this is only possible with a motorbike and not with a car). From there, you still have to walk a short distance to the waterfall. If you only want to see the view, you pay IDR 20,000, and if you want to go on a trek, arrange that with Made, as described earlier.

Hanging Restaurant
There is now also a “hanging” restaurant” with a beautiful view over the valley and the waterfalls. But before you get there, you still have to walk a short distance to the waterfall from the parking lot at the homestay.

It is a fairly easy path because you go downhill and at a certain point there is also a staircase with a handrail. Then you come to the ticket office where you can pay the entrance fee, and then it is just a short distance to the restaurant, where the last part goes steeply uphill again, there you also come across a place where local people are available to take you back down on your motorbike, and that is highly recommended; for IDR 25,000 they will take you back up to the parking.

The hanging restaurant is made entirely of wood; they have good coffee as well as cold drinks and serve food. You can find more information and the menu here.
The view is beautiful, and it is a lovely spot if you just want to enjoy the view without doing the strenuous trek. During peak season, it is advisable to make a reservation with the restaurant, as organized trips and groups also visit and reserve a few tables.

And with a nice coffee, a cold drink or while you have lunch you can enjoy this view.

As mentioned earlier, the way back is steep and uphill, so it is highly recommended to hop on the back of a motorbike for IDR 25,000 and they will take you back up safely.
