The Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is a Hindu temple located in Lake Beratan, Bedugul. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu, the goddess of water, lakes and rivers. This lake plays an important role in the irrigation of the surrounding area. The complex was built in 1633. The Meru, with eleven roofs, is dedicated to Shiva and his consort Parvati. Buddha (as reincarnation of Vishnu) also has a place in the temple. Lake Beratan is known as the “sacred mountain lake”, the environment is very fertile.

Previously the temple in the water was the centrepiece, nowadays it has become a kind of amusement/family park and it is a busy tourist attraction, not only for international tourists but also for domestic tourists. It is best to get there early so that it is still a bit quiet, because when the busses with tourists arrive, the silence is over. The complex is located at an altitude of 1200 meters and the climate is therefore cooler and it can happen that it is cloudy in the afternoon.

The park around it has now also been expanded because when you walk past the temple there is a playground with a pond and various places where you can take pictures and the people here like that so it is often very busy there. Quite a bit of catering has also been added, plenty of options to eat and drink. The whole area around the lake is getting a makeover, elsewhere they are busy with construction, you can also go on Lake Beratan with a boat or pedal boat.

The park is still beautiful and it is beautifully landscaped with the most beautiful flowers and colours.

The entrance fee is currently IDR 75,000 per person for adults and IDR 50,000 for children (that’s only for international visitors). The entrance fee will be increased to IDR 100.000 for adults and IDR 75,000 for children as of July 2026.
