Palasari

Palasari is a village in the west of Bali founded by missionaries and led by the Dutch Pastor Buis in 1926. The centre point of the village is the Catholic church, the Palasari Sacred Heart Parish, that is the official name of the Catholic church which was built in 1956 by pastor Blanken. The Palasari church building uses a mix of Balinese and European architecture with Gothic features. This church building is built on a hill with a tower height of 33 meters above the ground, and the floor of the church is 72 meters above sea level. It was renovated in the years after an earthquake damage in the early 1990s and a thorough renovation was done.

Next to the church is the Goa Maria is a spiritual pilgrimage place for Catholic people and it is a beautiful park, the road leading to the Goa Maria goes up and on the side of the road are images showing of the agony and crucifixion of Christ.

When you come up there is a clearing with a Christ on the cross and a large statue of Mary in a shallow cave.

People of different religions live in the village and is therefore a mishmash in contrast to nearby village of Blimbingsari where all inhabitants are Protestant.
