Meja Satu Cooking class

The website is the leading source of information as there is no experience yet doing the cooking class with Meja Satu.
The introduction page says : “We spoke to tell it, Balinese specialties are time and ingredient intensive and as such they are usually reserved for special occasions and are not often found in ordinary restaurant. Bali Cooking Class at Meja Satu, one of the best cooking class in north Bali and here they will teach you all about Balinese food in a pleasant and relaxing environment. You’ll taste Bali culinary highlights and get new insights. You will be taught and trained by Balinese people”.

Meja Satu means table one, this is because there is only one tablein the place where you can do the cooking workshop. The workshop is done by Danny and he is an experienced cook, throughout his career he travelled all over Indonesia and got the experience in different places e.g. he learned the specifics of Rendang from the people of west Sumatra. For 10 year he ran a restaurant in Lovina as a cook and manager, specialised in the Indonesian and Balinese cuisine.

How does this work?
The cooking class can be done with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 10 people. Sometimes when the group is small other people could join. It is possible to do the cooking class in the morning and the cooking starts at 10 am and in the afternoon at 3 pm.

With the morning class you can go to the market in Singaraja first, transport will be arranged but this will be in the morning at 9 am. You will get a tour on the market and Danny will tell you about the ingredients, the herbs and vegetables which are needed for the cooking class, when you return you can take a break, drink some coffee at the beach or stay and talk about food, it is all about being flexible there is no tight schedule.

Menu
On the website there is a menu of the food you can cook, with some dishes you need to inform them earlier as it needs longer to prepare, like Rendang Sapi. The cooking class will take about 4 hours, when all the cooking is done you obviously can eat what you cooked yourself.
