Kintamani, the area around the Batur vulcano

Kintamani is a village and sub-district of the region Bangli in the east of Bali. The village of Kintamani is located west of the active volcano Gunung Batur.
The climate is cool and especially during the rain season it can be clouded and wet. It is never for certain but you could say that in the morning the days starts with sunshine and during the day it will get more clouded which often will give rain, when that happens it cools off significantly.

The area is centred around the vulcano and the Batur Lake, with a height of 1500 meter above sea level it is most definitely an impressive landmark in the area.
You can go all the way up, a famous and busy activity are the hikes during the night to the top of the Batur to watch the sunset early in the morning, but also during the day you can do this and once you are there enjoy the view over the area.

Lake Batur
The Batur lake is the largest lake in Bali. The lake is 7 km long, 2.5 km wide and approximately 70 meters deep.
Lake Batur is a volcanic crater lake, the lake is inside of the caldera of the Batur.

The Batur lake has been in recent years, farmed for fish. The Nile Tilapia was the dominant species in the lake.
In the village of Toya Bangkah there are several hot springs related to the volcanic activity of the volcano. These have been developed for tourism purposes. The water from these hot springs flows into the lake.

Puru Ulun Danu Batur
Just like any other area on Bali also Kintamani has several temples, Pura Ulun Danu Batur, Pura Ulun Danu Batur is the second most important temple after Pura Besakih. The temple was built in 1926, the temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, goddess of lakes and rivers. “Ulun Danu” literally translates as “head of the lake”.
Originally, Pura Ulun Danu Batur and the village of Batur were located down in the caldera at the foot of Mount Batur, an active volcano. A violent eruption in 1926 destroyed both the village and the temple, except for the most important shrine, an 11-tiered meru dedicated to Dewi Danu. The villagers moved to the highest and oldest rim of the caldera, where they rebuilt their village and the temple.

Pura Segara
This temple is an old floating temple on the edge of Lake Batur, just like with Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, this temple is actually in the water, the difference is that this temple can be reached by a bridge.

But in the area there are more temples, like the Pura Tirta Hulundanu which are worth a visit, on this side of the lake is a golden statue of goddes of the lake Dewi Danu, which can only be reached by boat.

Kintamani coffee
Kintamani coffee has taste characteristics that are very different from other coffees in Indonesia. There is a fresh sour taste like the taste of citrus fruits but does not leave a trace (aftertaste) in the mouth.
In addition, coffee beans emit a very strong and sweet aroma. Plus, the size of the seeds is medium. Bali Kintamani coffee also does not emit a spicy aroma like other types of coffee in other areas. Of course, this is more suitable for those of you who don’t like the bitter taste of coffee.

Kintamani coffee is a good product from the area resulted over the years in coffee shops, on the Penelokan main road there are many coffee shops, nicely decorated coffee shops with an extended menu in coffee, drinks and food, the nice things about these coffeeshops, next to the good coffee, is the view as many of these coffeeshops are located opposite of the Batur.

When you have a clear sky (which is rare) it looks even more beautiful.
