Your guide Rundung will take you on a walk through the kampung of Kalibukbuk, the area he knows very well as he grew up there and still lives in the area, the people you will meet are his family. The walk starts at the house of his grandfather, you can have a look in the kitchen and see how the people live and do their daily activities and it is obvious they have given their permission to do this walk.

The Kalibukbuk Kampung Walk will take about 1,5 hour, at the end of the walk you will be invited into a local house sit down and have a coconut. The best time to do the walk would be as early in the morning as convenient, this way it is not so hot yet, also it is possible to experience an Balinese breakfast having Bali coffee, cocos injing and pisang goreng.
The price for the walk and the coconut is 50.000 rupiah per person. When you want to have Balinese breakfast it will be 100.000 rupiah per person, more than 2 people it will be 75.000 rupiah per person.
From the money you pay, Rundung will buy bags of rice for the people you visit and for this the people are grateful and if you wish Rundung can sent you a picture when he give them the rice.

The lady in the picture below is working on “asam” this is a fruit from a tree and inside there a kind of stone which has a salt taste they need to peel the skin and after that they dry the “stone” in the sun. When it is dry they pack it in small packages from banana leave and sell it on the local the market in Kalibukbuk.

Many people have a cow, the cow eats grass and so people go out on the bicycle or motorbike to find the grass, so when you see someone driving on a bicycle with a bunch of grass on the back you will know that this grass is for the cow.

Some people have a bull, the bull get to do his trick and that way little cows will be born and when they are bigger they will be sold on the market.

They also hold chickens and pigs and most of the pigs are being sold and end up in the Babi Guling.

The walk will take you through the kampung and will show you the local life in the village where you normally never would be able to come and where the people will welcome you into their homes.

It is an interesting area when you walk through the kampong, you will see so many different things.

At a certain point the houses just end and in no time you find yourself in an open space and it doesn’t really show but these open areas are rice fields, only here they will grow rice one or two times a year, mostly during the rainseason, and when the time is right the people from the village will work on the rice fields.

Above the situation in July/August when it was dry season, below the situation of February/March, when the rain came January it was possible to plant the rice again.

From here you walk back to the house of Arik, he is the host where you will get the coconut and in case you choose to have the breakfast you will also get the breakfast there. After the breakfast or the coconut break the walk has come to an end and you will walk back to where the car is parked.
