Jatiluwih is located in the central mountain massif of Bali and lives up to its name which means “really beautiful”. The village is located at an altitude of 850 meter between ancient rice terraces. This region is called the granary of the island, it is the only place in the world where 3 rice harvests take place per year.
When entering the village you need to get an entrance ticket to the area, a ticket is IDR 75.000 per person and IDR 5.000 for the car, the driver/guide does not need to pay.

The area is surrounded by the Batakaru, which is an extinct vulcano.

It is a very big wide area with a lot of smaller ricefields before you come to the “centre” of the area, this is the area where the hotels and restaurants are.

Because of the authentic Subak-methode the area has a successful irrigation system, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This means the area is protected so that agriculture is preserved.

When you reach the “centre” you can do a nice walk through and along the rice fields. You see the people work on the fields and they are very friendly and even willing to be on the picture. The green terraces provide a breath taking view. You can also rent a bicycle and cycle along the fields.

As said there is a walking route where you can just walk around and straight through the rice fields.

Because of the location, it is often cloudy and it often rains so it is best to go there early in the morning, so that the sun is still shining and it is still clear.
Drone Flying Notice:
Flying drones within the Jatiluwih area is permitted only with prior authorization and will incur an additional charge of IDR 300,000.
Lucky for us we have visited many times and when we took the pictures from above this flying notice didnt apply yet, unfortunately this is with many places on Bali the case where an additional charge is requested to fly with a drone.

Staying the night in Jatiluwih
There are several hotels, villas and homestays in the area, there are even the so called glamping sites. The one hotel which is recommended, from experience, would be the Bhuana Agung Hotel, this hotel/restaurant is located along the rice fields and it is a nice hotel with nice rooms and from the balcony you will have a beautiful view over the rice fields.
The rooms are nicely decorated, there is a restaurant with a terrace, as a guest you can borrow mountain bikes and go for a ride early in the morning. The hotel has a restaurant and there is a bakery, so fresh bread rolls for breakfast (not standard) are an option. There is also a swimming pool.

Spending the night there will give you different views over the area and it gives you the time to make some nice hikes through the area.

Jatiluwih is a very interesting area, in the area around Jatiluwih there are also different Glamping options.
