This village in the east of Bali is famous for its options for snorkeling and diving. It is a stretched out area along the coast with a lot of bays.

Fishing is one of the activities for the local people and that is why there a lot of Jukung (traditional fishing boats) on the beach.

From any place around Amed you could walk into the water and go snorkeling, you can go with one of the many guides on a jukung (traditional fishing boat) for a snorkeling tour, there are many local people around who love to take you with them on a snorkeling trip, just make a good deal for the price and number of locations as they can take you to different places along the coast.

From the beach you can see the mighty Mount Agung by clear weather. The beach has black sand caused by the outburst of the Agung in 1963.

There are many nice bars and restaurants along the beach, it is a good place to stay and discover the area.
No more fast ferry to Gili Trawangan
Amed was also known to be a gateway to the Gili Islands, unfortunately that is no longer the case, since March 2023.
Padangbai is the main harbour at the east coast, where the slow ferry is going to Lombok, many fastboat operators use Padangbai as port for their services to Lombok, Gili Islands, but also Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida.
Snorkeling around Amed
There are many options where you can go snorkeling, Jemeluk Bay, Lipah Beach or with the Japanese shipwreck but there are many more locations. Around these locations there are local vendors where you can rent the snorkeling gear.
The team of RundungBaliTours made a trip to Amed from Lovina in August 2025 and we went snorkeling at Turtle Point and the Coral Garden.
Snorkeling at turtle point and coral garden
From the main street, it’s a side road to the beach. There’s a small parking lot and a sort of warung that rents snorkeling gear and sunbeds on the beach. We were assigned to two sunbeds, and off we went into the water.
When you walk into the water it is shallow and there is some coral and beautiful fish. The pictures taken with a underwater camera but unfortunately the cover was leaking, so the pictures aren’t the best ones, but just to give an idea. (For sure there are better pictures to be made).

Gede Putra is a professional photographer and a very experienced drone pilot and he flew around with the drone and took some beautiful photos and shot some nice videos unforunately they are too big for the website.

Amed is not known for a nice beach, the sand is black and darker than in Lovina, not really clean and there are lots of stones and pebbles.
The beach at this snorkeling location is full of sunbeds and umbrellas, looks nice, and it was quite busy. There was a nice breeze and the sun was shining, so ideal conditions. There are many bays along the coast and plenty of snorkeling spots; this is just one of the many options.
Sunset Point
Located on the highest point of Amed overlooking the bay it is a beautiful spot to catch the sunset, click here for the exact location.
This is a fairly large complex, a beach club without a beach because it’s perched on a cliff. There’s a large parking lot for cars, and you have to register, or at least indicate what you want. There’s a buffet BBQ option, which we didn’t do because we came for the sunset. The entrance fee was IDR 150,000 per person, but the drinks are included. There’s an infinity pool and VIP terraces, all very luxurious.
We opted for a seat in the lower area where there are rows of beanbags and with a beer, it’s a pleasant place to relax. There was a DJ playing loud music, but apparently that is all part of the experience.
Although it was very cloudy, Mount Agung frequently appeared, and it remains a beautiful sight.

It’s Sunset Point, so the sunset is usually beautiful, but today it was a bit more clouded which made it a little less spectacular, but it was a beautiful evening.

With Mount Agung in the background when the clouds were not in front of it.

When it’s really dark and the whole club is lit up and you fly over it with a drone, it’s quite an impressive place.

At a certain point we got hungry and we went for dinner in a place called See You Again, a nice cafe close to Sunset Point and had a delicious meal.
